THE BRITISH CELLO PHENOMENON
CC1010

The exceptional tradition of British cello playing is celebrated on this exclusive 2-CD set, which gathers together many of the key cellists from the early years of the recording era to the present day. Here are such rarities as Sir John Barbirolli playing Bach; Beatrice Harrison, the Delius dedicatee, playing the Elegy; William Pleeth, one of the leading English cello teachers of his time, playing Rubbra with the composer at the piano; as well as performances from the current cello stars of the concert platform. Specially featured is the rediscovered recording of Jacqueline du Pré playing Rubbra?s Soliloquy, made during a performance with the Newbury String Players and conducted by her brother-in-law Christopher Finzi. With over two hours of music, this is a unique historical document.

This new release comes at the unbelievable price of only £10.00 for both CDs when ordered online.
