CC1024 With CC1024, Cello Classics brings together many of London's finest cellists, in recordings of a number of works by Julius Klengel. Cellist, composer and influential pedagogue, Klengel's 'descendants' include Piatigorsky, Feuermann, Suggia and Pleeth, in turn producing most of the great cellists of today. The ferociously virtuoso Capriccio for solo cello, played by Raphael Wallfisch, has rarely appeared on cd while other works receive their first recordings. Together with newly remastered recordings of Klengel himself, the cd closes with the ever popular and beautiful Hymnus for 12 cellos. All the artists on this recording have given their services in aid of MS Research, a charity much associated with the late Jacqueline du Pré (1945-87), grand-pupil of Julius Klengel. CC1027 The legendary Emmy award-winning cellist Keith Harvey has been at the forefront of the British cello tradition for more than 50 years. Youngest ever Principal Cellist of the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Harvey went on to found the Gabrielli String Quartet and while for many years Principal with the English Chamber Orchestra work with musicians such as Benjamin Britten, Raymond Leppard, Daniel Barenboim, Geza Anda and Clifford Curzon. CC1029 Following 2 sell-out concerts at London’s Wigmore Hall, Colin Carr and Thomas Sauer were persuaded to record their highly-praised accounts of the complete works for cello by Felix Mendelssohn. Winner of many prestigious international awards, Colin Carr’s career flourishes on both sides of the Atlantic, and he appears in concert with Tomas Sauer worldwide. This is the duo’s first recording for Cello Classics. |
